Crisfield Area Chamber of Commerce NEWS!
Sandy Atkins (Sandy’s Nail Salon) will lead the Chambers “Spring Beautification” effort. The plan is to prep the 19 flower boxes throughout the uptown/downtown area with new annuals, soil, etc. This project kicked-off last year with the fresh painting and planting, and relocation of the flower boxes. Sandy and her team are going to freshen these flower boxes with new plantings to brighten up our central business corridor. She’s working on planting date and gathering materials, etc. If you would like to help Sandy with this project ( she promises that it won’t take much time!! ), just give her a call at 443-614-0651.
Sandy is also going to lead the Cruise Ship/Bus Tour
Welcoming Project ( Sandy is a busy woman! ) Many of you
will remember that this very successful project was started last
year by the Downtown Business Group and was spearheaded by Mike
Milbourne. Well, this year the Chamber and the Tawes
Museum/Foundation are teaming up to expand and carry this project
onward. Mike reported that the Cruise lines stated that…..Crisfield
was the friendliest port among all of their stops around the
Bay!!!!!! Last year, “welcome bags” filled with goodies, discount
coupons; crab necklaces, etc., were given to each passenger and
crewmember. PNC Bank is going to provide the sturdy bags and Sandy’s
Team will be gathering the “goodies” and local business discount
coupons, etc., etc., for this years effort. The cruise line(s) and
bus tour arrival schedules are being finalized. Sandy will need some
help with this great project, so if you would like to pitch in and
be a part of the WELCOME TEAM, give Sandy a call at
443-614-0651.
Plus……….if you would
like to have your business discount coupons included in the goodie bags, be sure to give
Sandy a call. This would be a great way for you to generate
additional business during the cruise ship/tour bus tourist
season!!!!!!!!!!!!
New visitor maps and street-side map boards are being completed
and will be available in the very near future!!! The Chamber Tourism
Task Force (TTF) is about to
complete this third tourism promotion project. Last year, the TTF replaced the aging
“welcome” sign at the water entrance to the Port-of-Crisfield and
Somers Cove Marina. The TTF also initiated the “flower box”
beautification project. Now, the third in the series of tourism
promotion projects is about to hit the streets. ID’ing the location
of our 13 “eateries”, over 20 local “shops & more” and
listing all of our “major events”, these updated maps will be
inserted into hundreds of copies of our tourism promotion brochure
and also be placed in display stands located throughout the
community. The map boards will be updated with a vinyl overlay
reflecting the same information. These two projects should go a long
way in helping our visitors find there way into our local businesses
and around the town.
All of these projects are focused on
helping to enhance our community image and support our local
businesses. Totaling nearly $15,000, all projects have been funded
by the Chamber.
Patti
Marshall (PNC Bank), chair of the Membership Committee, said to keep
your calendars flexible for adding in some membership activities in
the near future. A Chamber social….. “Business After Hours”…..
is being planned and will be announced shortly.
Mark your calendars for Friday,
April 18th!! Tawes Museum director Chris Tyler
announced the museum will be having an open house on that date to
officially dedicate some new exhibits. Timmy Howard, museum curator,
has been busy restoring some newly acquired historical artifacts and
creating new and expanded display areas within the museum. The
museum always does a first class job and you won’t want to miss this
fun evening. Chris promises it won’t be like the popular movie,
“Night at the Museum”, but it might come close!!!!
LASTLY, AND VERY IMPORTANT, REMEMBER THAT ALL CHAMBER MEMBERS ARE
WELCOME TO ATTEND ALL BOARD MEETINGS. ALTHOUGH MEMBERS ARE NOT
ALLOWED TO VOTE ON ISSUES BEFORE THE BOARD, YOUR ATTENDENCE AND
IMPUT ARE VERY MUCH WANTED AND WELCOMED. CHECK THE CHABMER WEB PAGE
FOR MEETING DATES AND LOCATIONS OR CALL VAL AT THE CHAMBER OFFICE,
410-968-2500.
Respectfully submitted,
Terry Pehan
Board Secretary.
