Also, chamber member, David Dodge, real estate developer and president of Smart Growth Land Management Co. was there and introduced himself and stated that he’d like to become an active chamber member. He is very interested in the town and community, as is Mr. Jerry Black.

Valerie Mason gave the office summary. The office is very busy with the summer events (fishing tournament, clam bake and Crab Derby). The Jaycees sent information to the chamber stating that they are trying to start a Jaycees Club in Crisfield. If anyone is interested, please contact Valerie. Also, the Animal Plant has contacted the office regarding coming to the Crab Derby for the crab races. The show will be aired nationally.

Guest speaker, Elaine Patterson, is a chamber member and is from the eastern shore. She owns her company, Arcadia Enterprises. Elaine also had products on display.

Charles Pinkerman, CEO, McCready Foundation, gave an update on the hospital and nursing home. Three years ago they started on a project to improve the facilities. An architect developed plans, which is a 4 story building, 60,000 square feet. They also found a need for an assisted living area. So the plan has been submitted for improvements to hospital and nursing home, with an assisted living space. They have 18 months to finalize the contract and 3 years to get the building done. They are beginning a fund drive and are asking the chamber for a donation. Steve will have the finance committee look at that.

Charlotte Scott, chairperson for the Candidate’s Forum, gave a report. Approximately 300 people were in attendance. It went very well, with all candidates very respectful of each other. The budget was $1,000.00 and $869.33 was spent. Charlotte also shared an email she received from Frank Urban, the moderator. We will also be giving Frank $50.00 gift certificate to the new Captain’s Galley for his help on the forum.

There will be a fishing tournament meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m. at fire hall. Volunteers have called the office to help, which is greatly appreciated. The kick-off party will Thursday, June 22nd. Jay Tawes is helping with the financing of the tournament. We appreciate Jay’s help!

Danny Thompson, EDC, may need help on a couple projects from the Crisfield chamber and the Princess Anne chamber. He will let us know more later.
