Crisfield Chamber Board of Directors
October 12, 2006



The monthly Board of Directors meeting was held on Thursday, October 12, 2006 upstairs at the Crisfield Heritage Foundation. The meeting was brought to order by President Steve Marshall at 6:00 p.m. Board members present were: Chris Sterling, Tom Shores, Sue Heath, David Price, Charlotte Scott, Danny Thompson, Steve Marshall. Please note: not enough board members present for a quorum.



Chamber members present were: Mike Waldman, David Miller, Jerry Black, Teri Christenson, Russell Ward, Janet Ward, Eddie Heath, Jennie McDorman, Richard Crumbacker, Bill Buttrill, Kristy Hickman, Barb Gregory, Gabe Stuckey, Renee Croft.



Minutes from previous meeting were accepted, motion made by Bill Buttrill, seconded by Sue Heath. Tom Shores gave the treasurer’s report. Motion made to accept Bill Buttrill to accept, seconded by Sue Heath.



Valerie Mason gave the office summary. Chamber members are invited to Ryan Homes condo’s open house on Sat., October 21, from 11:00 – 6:00 p.m. Condo’s are at Jersey Island. Parade date is set for Saturday, Dec. 9th, 6:00 p.m. Anyone interested in putting something in the parade can contact Valerie at the chamber office. Valerie attended the Small Business seminar that was organized through City Hall. Seminar was on Oct. 5th.

Valerie has information on the seminar, in the office if anyone would like it. New members recently joined are Debbie’s Chocolates & Gifts at 323 W. Main St. and Sandy’s Nail Salon at 510 W. Main St. We welcome the new members.



By-laws committee has met several times over the last few months, under the direction of chairman Terry Pehan. Recently, they presented the draft to the board of directors. The board is now meeting and going over the new by-laws draft.



Chris Tyler, Crisfield Heritage Foundation, report that things are coming along with the Waterman’s Festival, which will be held on Friday, October 20th. She also stated that the season is slowing down in the museum.



Steve Marshall reported that he has formed the nominating committee. It consist of Tillie Doyle, Valerie Guetens, Sue Heath, Danny Thompson & Virginia Townsend.

They will meet and work on nominations to be announced at November’s meeting.



The annual chamber banquet is set for Saturday, January 20,2007 at the Elks Lodge.

Steve Marshall suggested that we invite some of the civic leaders and volunteer leaders, such as Ambulance Squad and Fire Dept. Terrie Milbourne has agreed to serve on the banquet committee, along with Valerie Mason. Sue Heath said that her and Jenny McDorman will help.



Steve Marshall stated now that our busy season is slowing down, we need to get the showmobile to Meadows Hydraulics. We need to find someone to take it there (in Fruitland).



Steve Marshall also reported that Terry Pehan has been working with Becky Lowe on the new sign at the City Dock, as you enter the Somers Cove Marina from the water.



Barb Gregory, chamber member and business owner, suggested that we look at the possibility of getting maps for the area. Our Crisfield maps are very old and the print is not clear. Also suggested was to replace the 3 small maps/signs in the downtown area, they are old and the information is incorrect.



Steve Marshall also discussed the possibility of having a meeting regarding the ethanol plant, which would be built on corner of Rt. 13 and Costen Rd. The plant would help out the county economically and be environmentally friendly, but would be a $125 million investment.



Mayor Purnell has hired 1st Sgt. Ernie Leatherbury as acting chief for Crisfield Police Dept. for the next 6 months, until a permanent chief can be found. Officer Leatherbury is employed with the Maryland State Police.



Renee Croft, Somerset County Library System, announced that they will host a community forum on Tuesday, Oct.24th at 7:30 p.m. in Crisfield. The forum is to discuss the plans for future growth of the library services and facilities needs.



Bill Buttrill suggested that maybe the Beautification Committee could possibility decorate the empty storefront windows for the holidays.



Steve introduced Mike Waldman, with Iott Architectures to chamber members.
