Val Mason gave the office summary. The Crisfield Times is going to do an annual Visitor’s Guide for Crisfield. It was discussed and voted on for the chamber to do a page in the visitor’s guide, so that we can advertise all of our events for the 2008 season. Cost for the year is $495.00 and will go under promotions. There were 2 more items that Valerie presented to the Board, but will give to Jay Tawes as Finance Chairman for the finance committee to review. Those two items were a donation to CHS for handicap equipment and also to the Waterman’s Statue that Paul Emely is working on. Sue Heath will do further research also on the equipment needed for the school.

Committee Reports:

Crab Derby: The concert tickets are selling very well. Boat Docking is coming along well. They are working hard on sponsorship. Jay Tawes & Skipper Cox are working on advertising for the boat docking, concerts and Crab Derby as an integrated promotion and advertising effort for all Derby events. Also, Val will email chamber members asking for help setting up for the concerts and at Crab Derby.

Fishing Tournament: No one present to report, however, David Mason has stepped up and will co-chair it with Mike Milbourne next year. We thank David and Mike for agreeing to that. Also, will need a profit/loss statement for Sept. meeting.

By-Laws: Valerie will email new By-Laws to all chamber members.

Government Affairs: Diane McGonigle went to City Council meeting. She discussed the development on Seventh St. Also, meeting set for Monday, August 13th, to discuss the SRP plan, which will be open to the public. It will be held at CHS.

Crisfield Heritage Foundation: Chris Sterling stated that they are gearing up for the Waterman’s Festival, which will be Friday, October 19th at the Somers Cove Marina.

Somers Cove Marina: Dennis was unable to attend due to a family matter. However, he sent a report to Val by email.

McCready Foundation: Jay Tawes announce that McCready Foundation is selling 50/50 raffle tickets for a fundraiser for the new nursing home. Jay and Chris Sterling have tickets.

Crisfield Airport: Vince Jordan was in attendance. He asked the chamber for a donation of $1,200 for an ad for the airport. That will be turned over to the finance committee also. Vince will get information regarding this to Jay.

Insurance Risk Review: Information on insurance was handed out to board members. We thank John Phoebus and Terry Pehan for taking care of chamber insurance. Also, it was voted on that every chairperson for each committee on Crab Derby needs to have a Hold Harmless Agreement signed by participants. Motion made by Bill Buttrill, seconded by Dan Kuebler, no opposed. Also, at beer booth, a sign must be posted regarding age and everyone must be carded.

Navigational Business Forum: Steve discussed “Project Rainbow”, which is headed by Charlotte Scott. It’s a project to help the uptown area of Crisfield and Charlotte will make a presentation at an upcoming meeting.

Scorchy Tawes “plague” cannot go in the Somers Cove Marina. Right now, it is in storage. Need to find a place for the plaque – Val will tell Paul Emely, maybe he can put it with the Waterman’s statue.

Before dismissing, Bill Buttrill wanted to announce how proud he is of Crisfield and what a great little town it is. Also, he thanked John Tawes for doing the Car Show and he also said we should be proud of all the events we do to bring so many people into town to help the local businesses.
